Shabana’s Winless Run Stretches to Five After Draw with Kariobangi Sharks
Shabana FC’s struggles in the FKF Premier League continued after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, 1st November 2025, at Kasarani Stadium. The result means Shabana have now gone five matches without a win, picking up two draws and three losses in that stretch.
The first half saw both sides probing but unable to find a breakthrough. Shabana’s winger Bronson Nsubuga Sserumira was brought down at the edge of the area, but the resulting free-kick was well punched away by Sharks’ goalkeeper Sepstanios Wekesa, who would go on to be named the club’s Man of the Match for a series of vital saves. Sharks had their chances as well, with Keith Imbali’s strike deflected for a corner, and Razel Omondi’s dazzling footwork repeatedly causing problems for the Shabana defence, though his efforts ultimately went unrewarded.
The second half started brightly for Shabana, who launched a quick counter forcing Wekesa into another close-range save. Ezekiah Omuri and Austin Odongo both had opportunities, with Odongo producing a moment of magic that has since ignited social media debate. His stunning overhead kick found the back of the net, but the referee ruled it out for a foul. Officials judged that Odongo had raised his boot too high near a Sharks defender who had positioned himself to head the ball away; a potentially dangerous collision. Some fans, however, believe the goal should have counted, and the incident has dominated discussions online.
Sharks also had near misses, with Razel Omondi and Zablon Kutela combining beautifully only for the final pass to be ruled offside. Shabana continued to look dangerous on the break, and Odongo came close again with a low shot that grazed the post. Kutela also tested Shabana’s keeper with a cross over the bar, keeping the match lively but goal-less.
The draw leaves Shabana struggling to regain momentum. They are now 7th on the table with 8 points from 7 matches, while Kariobangi Sharks remain 14th with 6 points from 7 matches, continuing a poor run that has seen them win only once in five games and fail to win in their last three outings.
Shabana head coach Peter Okidi now faces increasing pressure as a section of the fans call for his dismissal following the extended winless run. The team’s inconsistency in front of goal and failure to capitalize on key opportunities are raising concerns among supporters who expected a stronger start to the season.
As both sides regroup, the focus shifts to their next fixtures where victories will be essential to turn around fortunes and lift spirits.
