EXCLUSIVE: Alphonse Omija Returns to Tunisia as Étoile du Sahel Seek Resolution

Harambee Stars defender Alphonse Omija has returned to Sousse, Tunisia, at the request of the Étoile Sportive du Sahel board, in a move aimed at resolving the administrative and financial issues that have clouded his stay at the club.

The Kenyan international joined the Tunisian giants on September 10, 2025, fresh from an impressive showing with the Harambee Stars at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. Kenya’s historic run to the quarterfinals in their first-ever appearance at the tournament elevated Omija’s profile, earning him a move abroad.

Despite making a positive impression on the pitch after his arrival in Tunisia, Omija’s time at Étoile du Sahel was disrupted by off-field challenges. The deal was reportedly affected by unresolved financial obligations, a situation that forced the defender to leave Tunisia in December 2025 and return to Kenya. His sudden exit raised questions among local football fans, especially given his decent performances with the club.

There now appears to be renewed hope for a breakthrough. The Étoile du Sahel board has invited Omija back to Tunisia with the intention of reintegrating him into the squad while working through the outstanding issues.

Confirming the development, Omija informed Game Ni 90 he is already back in the North African country.
“Yes, I’m currently in Tunisia. I am here to know the way forward,” he said.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as both parties seek clarity and a lasting solution to Omija’s situation at one of Tunisia’s most decorated clubs.
